Lessons and Activities
Teaching the above lesson objectives with this nursery rhyme is super easy. But, here are some things you can do to scaffold their learning experience:
- Talk about alliteration and point it out in the text. Ask students to come up with a silly sentence using their name. Example: Silly Sally Smiled or Tiny Timmy Talked.
- Talk about rhyming words on another day. Point out all the words that sound the same.
- Put rhyming words on note cards and have students match the two words that rhyme.
- Give students a copy of the nursery rhyme so they can “read” it together with you.
- Build reading confidence by having students read the rhyme to you individually.
